Yesterday afternoon I was planning to see the original movie Singing In The Rain at Kulturhuset (for the International Dance Day), but as I have a cold, I didn't feel like sitting in an overchilled movie theater (I am always freezing in the Stockholm cinemas), so I decided to get some sunshine instead, and a nap.

Tegnap délután úgy terveztem, hogy elmegyek és megnézem az eredeti  Ének az esőben c. filmet, amit a Tánc Világnapja alkalmából játszottak a Kulturhusetben,de mivel náthás vagyok, nem igazán akaródzott egy agyonlégkondizott teremben ücsörögni (mindig fázom a stockholmi mozikban), ezért inkább úgy döntöttem, hogy napozok meg szundítok egy picit.

Later on, I went to the city and had to jump off at Gamla stan from the metro, for I saw that the sun was just about the set and it looked very promising.
Később bementem a városba, és Gamla stannál ki kellett ugranom a metróból, mert láttam, hogy mindjárt lemegy a nap, és nagyon ígéretesnek tűnt.



I bet the rain has only started to pour down right at that second, exclusively for me - my winter jacket got soaking wet, not to mention my hair, and my mascara definitely didn't know how to behave in the presence of water... Anyway, I had to run a few hundred meters, against the wind (let's don't forget: with my cold, and yeah, a sports bag), for there was only a few minutes left to catch the show. And apparently, I was the only one in the whole of Stockholm crazy enough to go through all this, because I enjoyed this miracle in the greatest solitude (except for one jogger and one car, but they couldn't care less).

Lefogadom, hogy az eső kizárólag az én tiszteletemre kezdett el ömleni - szépen átázott a télidzsekim, a hajamról nem is beszélve, a szempillafestékem pedig abszolút nem tudta, hogyan illik viselkednie vízzel való találkozáskor... Na mindegy, párszáz méter futnom kellett széllel szembe (és ne feledjük: a megfázásommal, ja és egy sporttáskával), mert csak pár percem volt, hogy le ne késsem a műsort. És nyilván én voltam az egész Stockholmban ilyen őrült, hogy mindezeken keresztülmenjek, mert a csodát a legnagyobb magányban élvezhettem (kivéve egy autót meg egy kocogót, de őket a legkevésbé sem érdekelte az egész).

The next pictures were taken with my mobile phone, that's why the very different tone. My camera's lens couldn't take the battle with the rain any more... But I guess it did well so far and I can reward her with a nice cleaning.

A következő képeket a mobilommal készítettem, ezért annyira mások a tónusok. A fényképezőgépem lencséje nem bírta tovább a harcot az esővel... De azt hiszem, eddig nagyon ügyes volt, úgyhogy megjutalmazhatom egy jó kis tisztítással.

There was quite some lightning from this side, but I couldn't catch any.

Jó sokat villámlott ezen az oldalon, de egyet se tudtam elcsípni.

Just found these pics on a disc...
Most találtam ezeket a képeket egy lemezen...

This is one of the most splendid points in Stockholm to watch sunset from: if I am not mistaken, it's called Vikingaberget (The Viking Hill), which is the highest point above sea in Stockholm (a bit more than 77m). And what you see is Viking Land, Lake Mälaren with its islands.
Ez az egyik legpompásabb hely Stockholmban naplementét nézni: ha nem tévedek, az a Vikingaberget (Viking-hegy), egy picivel több mint 77 m-es tengerszint feletti magassággal. Amit látunk, az pedig Vikingföld, a Mälaren tó a szigeteivel.


Unfortunately there is no café or anything there where you could sit down for a romantic dinner with your sweetheart, only a road and private houses (at least, as I know), so you have to take the subway (red line) to Varberg and walk, then just stand there by the road. But it's worth the trip, what do you think?
Sajnos, nincs ott kávézó vagy egyéb, ahol leülhetnél a kedveseddel egy romantikus vacsorára, csak egy út és magánházak (legalábbis amennyire én tudom), így aztán a piros metróval el kell menni Varbergig, majd elsétálni, és csak álldogálni az út szélén. De megéri a fáradságot, szerintetek is?

Sunset from the Gondolen

Friday evening I had a nice walk in the city and at the end, I even happened to climb up to the Gondolen (120 or 130 something stairs from Slussen, I don't remember exactly).
Pentek este setaltam egy jot a varosban, es a vegen ugy esett, hogy meg a Gondolara is felmasztam (szazhuszon- vagy harmincvalamennyi lepcso, mar nem emlekszem pontosan).

There is a restaurant & bar up there, always crowded of course, but I was rather interested in the view which would be absolutely worth to climb up for even double as high, even if you don't choose to take the elevator.
Van ott fent egy etterem es bar is, termeszetesen mindig tomve, de engem inkabb a kilatas erdekelt, ami mindenkeppen megerne, meg ha ketszer olyan magasra is kell felmenni, lift nelkul.

This is not very far from our place in Stockholm, so every once in a while I go there with my hubby. The only pity is that you can only stop with the car at this point where I took the picture from, but there is no any place for even one bench. It is caled Vårberg, part of Skarholmen.

The picture was taken exactly at 9 pm.

Longer days

I caught this one accidentally: walking in Gamla Stan, I didn't even think that I could still see some beauty remaining after the sunset, for I got used to that the Sun would go to sleep earlier than 3pm... And in the last weeks,  when it stayed up a bit later, it was mostly hiding behind clouds...

Ezt véletlenül kaptam el: a Gamla Stanban sétálva nem gondoltam arra, hogy még valamit elkapok a napnyugta utáni szépségből, mert hozzászoktam, hogy a Nap elmegy aludni már 3 előtt... Az elmúlt hetekben pedig, amikor már egy kicsit tovább is fennmaradt, leginkább elbújt a felhők mögé...

So this one was at 16:43, which gives us the approximate time of the sunset for 29 January.

Nos, ez 16:43-kor volt, ami nagyjából megadja nekünk a napnyugta idejét, január 29-re.  

UPDATE:
This was yesterday, on 31 January, at 16:42, so now we know.
Ez tegnap volt, 16:24-kor, tehát most már tudjuk.

Last weekend it was fantastic Spring weather...

March is still winter

Márciusban még tél van

For three and a half decades in my life I lived with the stable datum that March was the first month of the spring. Here in Sweden I had to learn that it doesn't come until middle of April or so... Which sucks big time, in my humble opinion, but let's accept it and try to look at the nice sides: for example the days are definitely getting longer (a few sunsets in different times)

Életem három és fél évtizedét azzal a stabil adattal éltem, hogy március a tavasz első hónapja. Itt, Svédországban azonban meg kellett tanulnom, hogy körülbelül csak április közepén köszönt be... Ami szerény véleményem szerint nagy szívás, de fogadjuk el, és próbáljuk meg a dolgok szebbik oldalát nézni: például a nappalok határozottan hosszabbodnak (néhány naplemente, különböző időpontokban).

Ezeken a képeken látható, hogy a nap még elég magasan jár, 5 óra után.

The same place in Gamla stan as here, which is an almost obligatory spot for tourists, coming from the subway to Riddarholmen. However, one thing you should watch out for: around this station is a favorite place for junkies and at least two of the beggar mafias too...

Ugyanaz a hely Gamla stanban mint itt, ami majdhogynem kötelező turisták részére: itt jössz ki a metróból a Riddarholmen felé. Azonban érdemes egy dologra vigyázni: ez a környék a drogosok és legalább két koldusmaffia kedvenc tanyája...

Lilla Lördag Loppet

Lilla Lördag (=Little Saturday) means Hump Day, which is the middle of the week, Wednesday (and the title means Little Saturday or Hump Day Run). Swedish people take a little break so that they can bear the rest of the work week easier. (Beside the point that I personally never could grasp the idea of work one does only for money but has no enjoyment in it, no other purpose, like the intention to help one's fellows - I can imagine that when one has such a job, one can hardly wait till it's over for the week; otherwise one wouldn't need a Lilla Lördag...)

Lilla Lördag azt jelenti, hogy Kisszombat, amit magyarul nemigen lehet lefordítani (a bejegyzés címe meg olyasmi, hogy "Kisszombati futás"). A szerdát hívják így, mert ez jelzi a dolgozó emberek számára a hét közepét, amikor is egy picikét eleresztik magukat, hogy jobban kibírják a hátralevő munkás hétköznapokat. (Az most éppen mindegy, hogy jómagam soha nem bírtam felfogni: hogyna lehet úgy dolgozni, hogy az ember csakis a pénzért csinálja, de nincs benne semmi élvezete, semmi egyéb célja vele, mint mondjuk az a szándék, hogy segítsen embertársain - el tudom képzelni, hogy amikor vlaakinek ilyen munkája van, alig várja, hogy vége legyen a hétnek, különben pedig nem lenne szüksége Kisszombatra...)

Anyway, so it was Lilla Lördag today, and I was at one of my favorite places, Gamla stan - wonderful evening after a sunny day, pleasant spring breeze finally, people are supposed to be out, celebrating Hump Day, and Stockholm is an absolutely gorgeous city; what could be more perfect for a nice, relaxed stroll? That's what people would do in other countries - apparently not here. They were on a hurry: some of them almost running from Gamla stan towards Sergels torg, the others in the opposite direction. As if they were going to work. Or something must have been going on, probably they had to catch the pub or something. Even the tourists disappear by the evening - where are they, instead of admiring all this beauty that a Stockholm night offers?

Na mindegy, ma Kisszombat volt; egyik kedvenc helyemen, Gamla stanban jártam - csodás este egy napsütéses nap után, végre kellemes tavaszi szellő, az embereknek kint kellene lenniük az utcán, megünnepelni a hét közepét, és Stockholm egy abszolút gyönyörű város; mi lenne tökéletesebb egy jó kis könnyed sétánál? Máshol legalábbis ezt teszik - úgy tűnik, itt nem. Rohantak: egyesek majdhogynem futottak a Gamla stan felől a Sergels torg felé, mások meg az ellenkező irányba. Mintha munkába siettek volna. Vagy valami történés volt valahol, biztos el kellett érniük valami vendéglátóegységet. Még a turisták is eltűntek estére - hová lettek, ahelyett, hogy mindazt a szépséget csodálnák, amit a Stockholmi este kínál?

Isn't it amazing? So why people don't enjoy it? Are they already bored with it, or is evening walk an unknown concept here?

More boats & ice

The last few pics from my walk on Saturday afternoon

My fingers got frozen at least 6 times, although I was shooting in gloves. Even by the end (about 2 hours later) my lungs started to freez. Ice and snow everywhere, but hot tea only at home, in about one hour more.
